About Me
I am 59 years old. I have a lovely wife of 39 years, two sons, four grandchildren, and one dog (Riley) that truly lives the "Life of Riley".

My wife and I worked with kids as "house parents" for many years. In the early 90's I became interested in computers. In the late 90's I became the administrator for an Internet Service Provider company and worked there until I became disabled due to heart attacks and emphysema. I am in the end stage of emphysema. I am also involved in a Christian Internet Radio site that my son owns.

I hope by joining this social site I will be able to meet (virtually) and communicate with others because I am pretty much confined to the house.

I am looking forward to meeting lots of people here.

Helpless
I had hoped to post mostly positive, humorous things that have happened in our lives but yesterday my wife had another heart attack.

I had to watch as they readied her for transport and felt so useless as they pulled away in the ambulance. For the first time in our lives I was not able to be with her in such a critical time.

Part of the emergency team had to work on me while they worked on Kathy. It was such a terrible thing to watch her suffering and not be able to stay by her side. I knew her leaving me here all alone was killing her too. She takes such loving care of me and my every need and I am not able to do the same for her.

I know that God is not doing this to us. I know that with all my heart. I know the devil wants me to give up and curse God but I will not. No matter what the devil throws at us Kathy and I will always love each and love God with all our heart.

I don't know why I am posting this except by doing this I can vent some of my anger and frustration toward the devil.

My wife is strong and she has such a kind and loving spirit about her. She will pull through this. I know it with all my heart. We will never give up. We will never turn from God.

My wife will recover from this and our love will be that much stronger for it. She knows I would be with her if I could. She knows that she is in my every thought and prayer.

Over the years of joy, tears and adversities our love has grown to the point that even apart we are together. Time and space will not separate us. Even when I pass on I will always be with her.

I made a lot of mistakes in my life but marrying her was NOT one of them. It is the greatest blessing I have ever received.

I apologize dear friends of our-social for posting something so personal but I just need to say these things.

It is good to watch the Lord work. Friends and family are taking turns staying with me to take care of my needs and Kathy is being well taken care of. No matter how alone Kathy and I sometimes feel when the times get really hard God always provides us with friends either to help us or for us to help them. Either way, that is what it is all about, helping one another in our times of need.

Kathy is doing well according to the doctors and hopefully there wasn't too much damage done. I hope for her to be home soon and I thank each and everyone that reads this and prays for her as I am sure some of you will. And if you are not a believer and yet you feel that little tug of compassion on your heart concerning our plight that is appreciated also for that means you have a kind and tender spirit about you.

God Bless one and all. I hope this post was not too out of line and if it is a little scatter it is because I am struggling to keep my sanity right now.

Thank you all for listening.

I am so sorry you had to go through this John and I know when my late husband had his first heart attack it was a terrible experience for me and my children as well as for him.  I pray that Kathy will make a full recovery and someday you both will

Life on the Ranch
I have never blogged before so I thought I would start by recollecting some of the good times my wife and I had working with the boys at the Alabama Sheriffs' Boys' Ranch.

At the time all the ranches in the ASBR were required (and probably still are) to go to the First Baptist Church. The nearest one to us was in Foley, Al. about 10 minutes from the ranch.

The Ranch Director, Pop Hallman, was a stickler about not letting the kids fall asleep in church. So we tried hard to try to keep them awake and out of trouble but that was sometimes just not possible. We went to church every Sunday morning and evening service and every Wednesday evening service.

We had one little fellow named Kenny that just couldn't stay awake at church so he had to sit beside my wife at all times.

We were at a Wednesday evening service and it just begun when little Kenny slid up beside Mom and laid his head on her arm. Kathy nudged him and told him he would have to stay awake.

Kenny raised his head, looked around and then looked at Kathy with a big, missing front teeth smile and said, "That's ok, Mom. Pop Hallman's already asleep.

Kathy looked over at Pop Hallman and sure enough his head was nodded over and he was sound asleep. She just smiled and laid Kenny's head in her lap and let him snooze away.

When I was young we attended a church my uncle was a pastor at. My uncle had just gotten his false teeth. During the sermon he lost his teeth. As a kid I thought this was the funniest thing I had ever seen.
